MacTCP Netswitch is an extension that will swap in a MacTCP Prep file from a group of pre-configured prep files, based on the status of your AppleTalk connection. It swaps in a prep file based on a) whether a network is connected; and b) the name of the AppleTalk zone you are in. It doesn't require the user to reboot after choosing a configuration file; the correct file is chosen automatically at startup. It will also resolve aliases to a file server, making it possible to store some prep files on a centrally-maintained file server; aliases may be mixed with actual files, allowing a single set of prep files for both on- and off-network configurations. Although written for PowerBook users, it is potentially useful for anyone who moves a machine from location to location. It can also be used to configure any group of machines using the same parameters by distributing an alias to a central server.
For more information, read the guide that is distributed with this
package.
Version 1.0.2 replaces versions 1.0.1 and 1.0b1. Version 1.0.2 corrected a bug in 1.0.1 that caused AppleShare volumes not to be unmounted. Version 1.0.1 added support for resolving alias files within the Prep files folder. It also corrected some bugs and added better support for System 6.0 users. All versions requires a Macintosh Plus or better, System 6.0.3 or later, and AppleTalk version 53.
